Character's Name: Lan SiZhui
Character's Canon: Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
Character's Age: 16
Canon Point: Yi City
Background/History: Born Wen Yuan in the now-extinct QishanWen sect, he is now the only living survivor of the sect. He was rescued from the abuse of LanlingJin sect and taken to the Burial Mounds with other Wen survivors by Wei WuXian. He bonded with WuXian despite WuXian teasing him, spending time with him and being taken into town with him. It was his first trip with him to Yiling where he met Lan WangJi, who was mistaken for his father when Yuan ran into him on accident while trying to find WuXian and began to cry. Because of WangJi buying him toys while WuXian could not, the nicknames of “Brother Rich” and “Brother Poor” as well as WuXian being more of a “mother” came to be.
He was still with WuXian at the siege of the Burial Mounds which killed WuXian, any remaining Wens either killed then or prior. Yuan survived, rescued by WangJi. He was very ill at the time and the fever caused him to forget all of his previous memories of WuXian and his family.
Taken back to the GusuLan sect, he was adopted by WangJi as his son. It is likely that until around age 6, he was raised by his uncle, Lan XiChen, the sect leader. WangJi was incapacitated for 3 years and SiZhui displays similar mannerisms to XiChen. Around age 10, he would have begun training as a junior disciple of GusuLan sect, learning to cultivate as well as follow their 4012 family rules. Unsurprisingly, he quickly became a model disciple for his age. At age 16, Yuan received his courtesy name, Lan SiZhui.
Because of his being a model of the GusuLan sect, he became a leader to juniors his own age, being the one in charge when the sect sent juniors to aid the Mo Village from walking corpses which were attacking at night. What started as a normal “capture walking corpses” assignment turned into a demonic left arm killing four people and SiZhui made the decision to call a senior to assist them, unknowingly being aided by WuXian who they believed was Mo XuanYu. SiZhui lead the juniors through the struggle to control the arm before the arrival of WangJi, the senior who had seen their flare.
At Dafan Mountain, SiZhui again led the GusuLan juniors, looking for the cause of problems on the mountain. This turned out to be a demonic statue which Jin Ling incited to attack. Showing his good nature, SiZhui tried to stop other cultivators from attacking Wen Ning after WuXian summoned him to assist.
After accompanying WangJi back with XuanYu, SiZhui led the juniors out again. Someone began leaving them weird signs which drew them to Yi City. A group of juniors from different sects was terrorized by bamboo knocking in the heavy fog until they found WangJi and WuXian, soon finding out the knocking was meant to save them from the real danger in Yi City.
For the purposes of the Strengths and Weaknesses, Mo XuanYu (the “lunatic” nephew of the Mo Village’s leader) will be named as that is who SiZhui and others believe him to be, but he is actually Wei WuXian summoned back into Mo XuanYu's body.
Strengths:
Leadership: SiZhui displays all the qualities of a leader and others around him follow it. He is clearly the one in charge of the group of juniors at Mo Village, being the one to explain how they will be getting rid of the walking corpses to Madame Mo while the other juniors remained silent. When people began to die around Mo Village, it was primarily his decision to light the flare to summon a senior disciple to assist them, only being asked by Lan JingYi if he had. The other juniors turned to him for decisions which he provided, including using their robes which had protection incantations sewn in to try and stop the demonic left arm as well as using their swords to form a barrier to try and contain it until a senior could arrive.
He is also the one to reprimand the others, pointing out JingYi’s improper behavior for chasing and threatening to beat up Mo XuanYu and telling the other juniors to mind their words for talking about XuanYu behind his back, giving direction again so they would no longer stand idle.
His leadership abilities eventually lead to juniors of other sects listening to him, including having Jin Ling, the temperamental heir apparent to the LanlingJin sect, as a frequent traveling companion.
Diplomacy: SiZhui is by far the most diplomatic of the juniors. He is the one who takes the lead in talking with others not of their sect, knowing just the right words and attempting to placate others depending on the situation. Examples include: protecting XuanYu when XuanYu’s cousin was trying to physically attack him; stopping Madame Mo from attempting to harm XuanYu after the first death while trying to explain how it could not have been him; and speaking to sect leader Jiang Cheng on Dafan Mountain. He also doesn’t look down on others, speaking to XuanYu, deemed a lunatic, as if he would have anyone else.
Bravery: In the face of the complete unknown, SiZhui is not one to run away. At Mo Village, when the demonic left arm killed its first victim, he realized there was a problem, but chose that they were going to call a senior to assist and stay to protect as many people as they could in the meantime. He also lead the GusuLan juniors to the cave on Dafan Mountain. Yes, at XuanYu's insistence, they left the cave, but he stayed to listen to XuanYu's explanation of how he'd figured it out. He also didn't run when they spotted the statue actually devouring someone.
Weaknesses:
Occasionally childish: While SiZhui generally acts very mature for his age, he is also very capable of acting like a child when the opportunity presents itself. When trapped and tied up in a cave with many other juniors from his own and other sects, SiZhui tried first to mediate when a fight broke out, initially between juniors from LanlingJin sect, though others started to involve themselves as well, including JingYi. After a few attempts at mediation and one too many elbows from other juniors, SiZhui gave up mediation and began to fight with them as well. He is also quick to agree with - and later instigate on his own - comments about WuXian being poor.

He and other juniors from GusuLan forgot to restock flares before heading to Dafan Mountain because they normally don’t need them, having needed apparently their last one to call a senior to Mo Village, something that delayed additional reinforcement from any sect in locating the group of cultivators and WuXian dealing with a now animated demonic statue. He, JingYi, and other juniors were also lured to Yi City, enticed by weird symbols, including dead cats, someone was leaving them. It was also a similar slip that allowed himself and others to be abducted and taken to a cave in the Burial Mounds.
Conflict: There are numerous occasions where SiZhui's actions contradict or indirectly break GusuLan sect's many rules. First, SiZhui points out JingYi's improper behavior for threatening to beat up XuanYu. However, later, SiZhui and JingYi dine with Jin Ling at an inn and SiZhui says nothing as JingYi downs alcohol, stuffs his face, and argues with Jin Ling - all breaking rules.
Secondly, the various sects are strict in their teaching, GusuLan more so than most. In the face of a fierce corpse that didn't want to fight him and kept dodging, SiZhui began to switch sword fighting techniques - from GusuLan to YunmengJiang picked up from Ling to QishanWen taught by Wen Ning. This is punishable; however, WuXian and WangJi both pointed out that he fought better with QishanWen techniques.
Lastly, ZiShui is brave, but he does have an underlying fear of abandonment. At age 2, he had likely seen his parents killed, his caretakers tortured and slowly killed off, lost WuXian, and even his "father" WangJi could not be around often for three years. Despite having forgotten specifics, the overall fear remains, which explains why he tends to surround himself with the same people constantly - Lan JingYi, Jin Ling, Wen Ning, Wei WuXian, and Lan WangJi. He is usually seen around at least one of them.
Powers/Abilities:

- Sword flying - it is common that cultivators with a decent golden core and sufficient training can fly on their swords
- He can play the guqin, a large zither instrument. As the GusuLan sect’s “specialty” is music, they have songs that have different effects. SiZhui is still in the process of learning “Inquiry”, which allows the player to speak to nearby spirits, but he has been told that his guqin language is very good.
